Walter Williams has written an excellent article today 2/12/2013. He posits that Cultural Deviancy is the true culprit of our society. It is not so much guns as it is the deviant society in which we live today, with music that glorifies rape, murder and other forms of wrong behavior. Along with Mr. Williams, I am amazed that our politicians and many of our pastors don’t condemn this behavior in our society, it is easier to ban assault weapons than it is to go against the deviancy that causes our lack of caring about one another.

He points out the simple truth that gun laws such as those posited by our political elites, will do nothing to stop violence in our society. He also shows that more murders were committed by other than guns, “according to FBI data from 2011, there were 323 murders committed with a rifle of any kind but 496 murders committed with a hammer or a club.” Yet our politicians want to ban “assault weapons” not hammers or clubs. Of course they don’t even know what an assault weapon is, so they include anything that looks dangerous.

Let’s look for a moment at our society, we glorify mayhem, rape, armed robbery and assorted other forms of killing and torture, just look at the “Saw” movies. Yet we say nothing about the killing of women and children when one of our drones are sent to kill one man and instead kill a couple of dozen or more. A short few months ago we saw a man kill a number of people then escape into a crowd, when he came out onto a crowded street, the NYC Police fired many rounds at him, hitting him a few times, but also hitting a number of innocent bystanders. That was OK, it was just collateral damage. New York City, Chicago, Washington D. C. and Detroit all have very strict gun laws, yet they also have the highest crime rates in the country. Especially crimes where guns are involved. Then if we look at where the shootings have occurred we might just notice that they happened where there are signs that say, “Gun Free Zone”, or “No Guns allowed” or even “No Concealed Carry allowed.” Criminals don’t give a flip for laws, they are made for law-abiding citizens, criminals are NOT LAW ABIDING people, that is why we call them criminals!

How about some of the other statistics that our politicians ignore, such as these, quoted by Mr. Williams in his article: “What explains a lot of what we see today, which politicians and their liberal allies would never condemn, is growing cultural deviancy. Twenty-nine percent of white children, 53 percent of Hispanics and 73 percent of black children are born to unmarried women.” Then there is this one: “By the way, the low marriage rate among blacks is relatively new. Census data show that a slightly higher percentage of black adults had married than white adults from 1890 to 1940. In 2009, the poverty rate among married whites was 3.2 percent; for blacks, it was 7 percent, and for Hispanics, it was 13.2 percent. The higher poverty rates — 22 percent for whites, 35.6 percent for blacks and 37.9 percent for Hispanics — are among unmarried families.”

It seems to me that something is greatly amiss in our society. I do believe it is what my parents would never have allowed me to be a part of. Sexual perversion, music that spews hatred toward women and other groups, violent video games, gratuitous sex and violence in our movies and even TV programs. These are things that my parents and most of the folks I grew up with would never have allowed, and I don’t allow them in my home either. I turned off the half time show at the super bowl because I saw the gyrations and the outfits that the women wore and wanted nothing to do with it. Cultural Deviancy truly permeates our society, and cheapens that society as well.
